The Painted Desert Inn is going to the top of favorite spots. Located inside the #petrifiedforest NP the original was aptly built out of the area's petrified wood in the 1920s. This new Adobe building dates from the 1939s when it underwent a renovation. The Inn is a National Historic Landmark and features displays highlighting its history and the work of the #ccc corps. It was a place to stop to eat or spend the night before continuing with the trip. The scenery is amazing and part of historic #route66. These road trips were an all-American dream. Check it out! A couple of travelers from California drove in with this incredible 1959 Cadillac I had to photograph. #rvtravel #rvlife #road trip #wanderlust #painteddesert
Not long after leaving Amarillo, we stumbled upon Russell's Truck and Travel Station in Gkenrio, NM. The place has an amazing classic car collection, and travelers can visit for free. They have a diner and gift shop. Route 66 was all about the car! They're so well designed we could say they're works of art. Most midcentury modern homes had car ports meant to showcase the car; a huge part of life in Post WWII life. We brought Elvis music CDs to fit the mood.
Driving through Historic Route 66 from Amarillo to Williams, Arizona was a trip! 😄 I'm a midcentury modern fanatic, so you can imagine my energy and excitement. We highly recommend it. #route66 #Arizona #newmexico #roadtrip #rvtravel #texas #wanderlust #wanderfolk
Horseshoe Bend is off the side of the road in Page, AZ. The cost to get in is $10. Public Restrooms. About a half a mile gravel trail with some incline to reach the viewpoint. The ocres, green and blues were amazing. We noticed some boats way down there. #horseshoebend #page #Arizona #earthday #rvtrip #canyon #rivers #thewest
